A devastating fire has damaged part of our peatland restoration site on Darwen Moor, leaving behind scorched habitat and setting back years of work to restore this precious landscape.
Peatlands are some of our most valuable habitats. They store carbon, improve water quality, help reduce flood risk and provide a home for an incredible variety of wildlife. Through the Lancashire Peat Partnership, we've been working for years to restore this special place, helping nature recover and making the landscape more resilient.
Thanks to the quick actions of members of the public who raised the alarm, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service and local gamekeepers, the fire was contained before even more damage could be done. Some of our restoration work, including rewetting the peatland and creating fire pools, even helped slow the spread of the blaze.
Despite this, the fire has caused an estimated £5,000 worth of damage to the restoration site, and there is still work to do to help the landscape recover.
Your donation will help restore damaged peatland after the fire, supporting the recovery of this special habitat and the wildlife that depends on it.
Whether you can give £10, £25 or whatever feels right for you, every donation will help us take the next step towards restoring Darwen Moor.
Thank you for helping nature recover.
